The Range of Our Curriculum

The school provides a  balanced curriculum at both Key Stages which meets the requirements of the National Curriculum.

A range of out of school activities supports and extends the curriculum. These include residential visits, both in this coutnry and abroad.

Pupils follow a common curriculum at both key stages which is delivered partly through theme based work at Key Stage 2, and specialist provision at Key Stage 3.

All pupils have specialist ICT lessons, but there is provision for teachers to use ICT in every classroom and this essential modern technology is a major factor in the delivery of all subjects throughout the school day.

Pupils follow a programme of personal and social education. Health and sex education are covered appropriately throughout the school.

Curricular links are maintained with neighbouring schools and liaison meetings are held regularly to ensure curriculum across the key stages.

Homework is used appropriately to support class work at both key stages. All pupils have a homework Diary which is regularly checked.

Neither we nor the Governors believe that the National Curriculum represents the whole curriculum. We also teach several other subjects.

Religious Education
You do have a right to withdraw your child from these lessons, should you find it necessary, but please come and discuss it with us first.

Personal, Social and Health Education, and Citizenship
This involves form teachers becoming involved with their class helping to establish good relationships so that each individual child’s needs are recognised.

We are proud of our reputation as a caring school and form teachers play an important part in the overall care and support of each child in their form. Teachers and pupils mutually accept the School’s Anti-Bullying Policy which makes it openly clear to all that bullying is totally unacceptable.

We aim to create an ethos and build a curriculum which enables pupils to recognise what bullying is, understand what can lead children to bully, know how it feels to be bullied and how to deal with any incidents which may arise.

Our Health Education Course includes an integral sex education programme “having due regard to moral considerations and the value of family life”, as stated in Section 46 of The Education Act, 1986. You have the right to withdraw your child from the Sex Education component of this course but again, please come and discuss it with us first.

We ask for your support and co-operation in the area of Health Education. We will share our plans with you, so that the knowledge and values acquired in school can be discussed and reinforced with you at home.

This is an outline of the many learning opportunities provided in our school. Full documentation of all curriculum matters is held in school and can be made available to parents on request. You will also find more detailed information on the website by clicking on the appropriate subject link.

There is a statutory right of appeal should any parent feel we are not meeting our National Curriculum responsibilities and this procedure may also be used for regulations covering Special Needs Provision for the very small minority children for whom a study of the whole National Curriculum may not be appropriate.
