Lunchtime at Hirst Park

Food for Thought...
Hirst Park is now independent from Northumberland County Council.

This means our school will be in charge of all our own school meals services.

It also means that the catering managers of Ashington High, Bothal Middle, Hirst Park and Wansbeck First schools will be working together to review the service, menu choices and prices.

Fresh and Local...
We have arranged for some great new suppliers giving us a better service and guaranteed good quality fresh local produce.

We have invested in equipment which enables us to buy less ready prepared food. This means we have been able to work on creating new and exciting menus.

We also hope to be able to introduce new products which can be bought as extras. Of course we will adhere to the strict government guidelines for healthy eating and will take this into account before adding any new item.

To see the new menus available from Liz Air, Catering Manager, simply Click Here. The menus will open in a new window.

Price Freeze!
Initially there will be no price change for a two course meal though we will be reviewing this in time.

We hope to introduce more meal deals in the future but, for now, prices are still £2.05 for a meal (£2.25 including juice). Cheques should now be made payable to Hirst Park Middle School and not NCC.

Envelopes containing lunch money should be put into the post boxes around school before 9:30am as usual. Parents MUST ensure there is enough money in their child's account as we can no longer give credit. Unfortunately children without sufficient credit could be refused lunch.

Free School Meals
If you think your child may be entitled to free school meals please contact the school for an application form or Click Here to download one in Word format.

To be eligible for help you need to be in one of the following categories:

  • Receive Income Support (IS) or Income-based Job Seekers Allowance (IBJSA)
  • Have an entitlement to Child Tax Credit (CTC), but not Working Tax Credit (WTC) and the family's annual income (as assessed by the Inland Revenue) is not more than £15,575 (this figure changes on an annual basis)
  • Receive support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Receive the guarantee credit element of Pension Credit.

It is worth applying even if your child has a packed lunch as the option to have a free lunch is always there if a packed lunch is forgotten or ruined for example.

And Finally...
If your child has any special dietary needs please contact us so that a diet form can be completed with your requirements listed.
