PE at Hirst Park
I would like to think that PE at Hirst Park is not only educational but has an element of fun too! The PE staff encourage and motivate pupils allowing everyone to achieve some measure of success.
All pupils recieve at least two hours of PE every week where they learn and practice a range of skills from different activities in line with the national curriculum; eg hockey, rugby, fitness dance and netball. By the end of each activity the pupils implement the skills they have learnt either in some competitive games or by producing a routine or sequence.
PE helps the pupils work on their social and leadership skills, promotes working as a team and helps develop good sportsmanship.
Teachers at Hirst Park work hard to make sport enjoyable both during lesson time and in our many after school clubs and activities. Staff have always been willing and happy to give up their own time in order to promote sport and a healthy lifestyle.
What is a Sports College?
Sport is a powerful tool and can greatly impact on the way we lead our lives and Sports Colleges aim to use the power of sport to raise aspirations and achievements.
In March 2009, Hirst Park Middle School was designated as a Specialist Sports College.
This will mean that PE and sport will lead the way in driving, piloting and shaping innovations in teaching, learning and provision. In this way our specialist subject will lead to improved whole school standards.
We will use specialist status to raise standards of engagement, attainment and achievement in PE in our own school but also across the key stages and in our partner schools. We hope to provide more opportunities in curriculum, after school and in the community so please encourage your child to take advantage of what is on offer.
